  1. There is one tailor in this district and he is Peter Smith of Moher. He does not go from house to house sewing, but the people bring him the cloth when they are going to get anything made. The instruments he uses are, a sewing machine, a needle, a scissors, a lapboard, a smoothing iron, and a thimble without a bottom. There is an saying about the tailors, "that it would take nine tailors to hoist a bag of dust on a sow". Most of the people in this district make the shirts at home. They make them from linen or flannelette. They also knit the stockings and socks themselves. There is no thread made locally but there is a spinning wheel in Ann Smiths of Moher and they used to spin thread long ago. The cloth the shirts are made from is made of flax and it used to be grown in this district long ago.
