- My Home District
Town Parks is the name of my townland. It is in the Parish of CastleTara and in the barony of Upper Lough Tee. There are sixteen families in the townland and there are about ninty people in it. Brady and Smith are the family names most common in the district. The houses in the locality are all two storey high and all are slated with the exception of one. Houses were more numerous locally in former years. Some of the houses are white washed and some are peeble dashed. Many people emigrated from this district to America and England in former years. The land about the townland is hilly and there are about twenty acres of it under wood. There was a tanyard is this district in former times in which leather was tanned and cattle fairs were also held in the townland each month. This is a verse in which the townland is mentioned.
