- The landlord of our district was McCoutcheon. He lived about ten years in the district. In those days all the landlords were looked upon as being bad. If you did not keep the land in good form he would evict you. I never heard any one who he evicted.
I could not tell how he got into the land. When a man got a farm he would marry if not already married. He would give each of his sons an equal share. He would then build a house for each and on that bit of land they would have to feed their wives and families. If he had only four acres and had four sons he would give them an acre each.
