- St Brigid's Day:-
That day used to be a holiday in the parish of Ardagh. She is the Patron Saint of the parish and crosses were in honour of her. People used to do an Novena at St Brigid's Well in Ardagh on that day. Her day is on the first of February.St. Patrick's Day.-
St.Patrick's day is celebrated on the 17th March. It is a Holiday of Obligation in Ireland only. This is how, because he is the National Apostle of Ireland. The people wear Shamrocks and badges on that day. The people of Ireland send Shamrocks on to friends in far off-lands. The Irish exiles abroad keep the holiday and honour it as their fellow Irishmen do at home even though their neighbour are at work.
Shrove Tuesday -
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wedens day. It is better known to the people of this district as "Pancake Night". Long ago the Church used not allow people eat eggs in Lent. So an Shrove Tuesday the people used to make an enormous amount of eggs in Pancakes. This was to come even with the forty days fast of eggs in lent.
The people used to and eat a lot of eggs on Easter Sunday. This also to was to come even with the 40 days fast of Lent. There used to be competitions to see who would eat the most eggs. A [?] eat 20 eggs on that day.
