  2. Bread could not be done without in any house. It is used nearly at every meal. It is made first by growing wheat, when the wheat is ripe it is cut, and brought to the mill where the miller makes flour of it, then it is ready for making bread. It was oatmeal that was used in the district long ago. The ingredients were oatmeal and water and salt mixed together. Sometimes it was baked before the fire against supports on a stand. There was usually enough baked on one day to last for a week.
