  1. The severest wind storm known in this district was in 1869. There were no lives lost around here.
    There were a lot of trees blown down. There was a beautiful grove of Cedars at Carriglass Manor about four miles here which were all blown down. Some people took refuge outside, they were afraid to stay in their houses.
    They had to cover the hearth fires with pots afraid it would blow round and set their houses on fire.
    There was a man asleep in an upstairs room when he woke in the morning he was looking up at the sky the roof was blown off.
