- The severest wind storm known in this district was in 1869. There were no lives lost around here.
There were a lot of trees blown down. There was a beautiful grove of Cedars at Carriglass Manor about four miles here which were all blown down. Some people took refuge outside, they were afraid to stay in their houses.
They had to cover the hearth fires with pots afraid it would blow round and set their houses on fire.
