- In this district most of the people get married on Wednesday as they think it the luckiest day. There is an old saying as follows:
"Monday for health,
Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday the best day of all,
Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses,
And Saturday no day at all.
Long ago it was the custom in this district for the groom to go on horse back to look for his bride and bring a bottle of whiskey with him. Often times a box of sovereigns and a cow or cattle were her dowry. The next Sunday after the marriage, the groom would ride again on horse back to the bride's house with a flitch of bacon tied across his back, a present for his bride's parents.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
