- Where the Christian Brothers schools are now was a saw mill's and stone-cutters owned by people called Sharps who supplied cut stone and all kinds of boards around the County. The present pump still used belonged to Starps.
There was a blue dying Factory on the top of Maudlin St where O'Briens house is at present. It was owned by people called Farrelly's. They used to buy in the sheep's wool, and they had weavers that would weave it into Cloth. Then they would have a big boiler of dye. They would dye the cloth a green or blue colour, green was the most fashionable colour. All the people used to buy it to make petticoats which were worn by the wemon instead of skirts, all the children even boy up to nine or ten years old wore the same petticoats. All the women and girls around used to make their own cloths as there were no dress-makers that time among the poor people.
