- The art of thatching is fast dying out in this district. I only know one or two good thatchers. Patrick Sully Bective and John Fynes Ennistown. I like to see them up on a ladder with a big bundle of straw on a fork on the side they are thatching. They get a small handful of straw and tie it at one end and stick it into the house with a thatching fork beginning at the bottom and ending at the top.
- Patrick Douglas a native of Rathmoylan was a noted thatcher. He lived in this parish for a number of years. William Foley lived at Furry Hill Kilmessan held a forge there. He used to make fire irons. His brother Brian Foley held one at Marshalstown, also Patrick Foley had(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
