In these modern times it is possible to have a selection of different kinds of food for every day of the week. In olden times one course in the day was scarcely available. Potatoes were then the only dish served in the country. These meals in the day were eating according to local tradition. The first meal was eaten early in the morning. At midday the second meal was prepared while the third was eaten at sun-down. It was possible, at times, to have meat for the second meal but as cooking utensils were rare people found it hard to cook it . Meat in those times was either eaten broiled or roasted. It was usual for people to drink milk at the meals. Buttermilk was the favorite drink then. On special occasion a drink called mead was taken. This(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
