- Long ago people did not wear boots till they came to the age of fourteen. Some people never wore boots. Some children went barefooted in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, in Winter they wore clogs. The water used for washing the feet is not supposed to be thrown out at night afraid it might be thrown on some holy sole. There are two shoemakers in the district and they make and repair shoes. In one of the families shoe-making has been a tradition. There are more shoemakers now than in olden times because there are nore shoes worn now than in olden times. Clogs were made and worn about eighty years ago. Leather was made in the district about eighty-five years ago. Leather was made in the tanyard in Church St,
