- My home district is Collon in the barony of Ferrard, Co., Louth. There are about eighty families in Collon and the population about two hundreds. The names most common in this district are Bellew and Emerson. All the houses in the village are slated. The name Collon is derived from Col (a hazel tree) from the number of hazel trees and woods with which it was surrounded. Long ago houses were much more numerous than they are now. It was the chief town in Co., Louth. The old ruins are the remains of corn and flax mills, and a police barracks that was burned during the time of the Black and Tans and two old houses.
Long ago the people emegrated chiefly to England and Scotland. The land is hilly and the woods around it are numerous the names are(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
