- It is said that about sixty years ago a man named John Quigley had a crop of oats in the stacks and that it was swept away into the big valley by a storm. It is said it came about the 11th of August in the year 1839. It is said there is a lot of storms come before that one, but they did not do much damage as it was not as bad as the last one. The roof was taken off many houses. It is said that lots of trees were knocked and many cattle were killed with the storm. It is said a wood was all knocked and swept away. A man named Patrick Lynch was going home from a neighbours' house and he was knocked into a quarry and killed.

- About fifty years ago there was a great snowfall in Rear Cross about the 17th of October in the year 1888. There was a very old man living by himself in a thatched house and there were trees all around.
