- Up to 60 years ago big floods used to occur in the Mulcair river & the water often rose 15' high.
One particular bad flood reached a house owned by Mulcahy. There were hens imprisoned in the house and when a local lad swam to their assistance he fed them on top of the dresser where they had to take refuge as the water was 9' feet high.
Dromalty bog was often like a lake and probably got its name from the fact - The ridge of the flocks. Wild birds of course were perched on the water.
