  1. Festival Customs
On St Stephens day men and boys go out hunting the wren gathering money. They wear old skirts and tall hats. As they go from house to house they sing the following song.
"The wren the wren the King of all birds.
On St Stephen's day he was caught in the furze
Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
A penny or two to bury the wren."
With the profits of the day they sometimes hold a dance and sometimes keep it as pocket money.
On St Brigid's day nine rushes are pulled and put under the pillow and a lover will appear in the dream. A cross is made with rushes and put up in the house until the feast arrives again.
On St Patricks day shamrocks, harps and badges are worn in honour of the Saint.
