Ar an leathanach seo

  1. At first a pot of water was boiled. Then one pound of log-wood which cost 2d was put into it. After one hour boiling the goods were put in. Then after three more hours boiling, they were taken up and one 1/2d of copperas which was about one ounce was put in. Then after one hour more boiling the clothes were put in, and in that manner they were coloured. Usually one day was given to this work. Copperas was a green crystal.
    To dye BLACK - logwood and copperas were used:- 2 lbs of logwood to 1/2 lb. of copperas.
    To dye RUST - dilse na gcloch (found on rocks).
    To dye NAVY - alum and logwood - (indigo).
    To dye BROWN - shoemac and redville - also leaves of briars - boiled with horses' manure.
    In order to "rime" the clothes that is to make the dye stick they were first boiled with sorrel.
