Tithes were collected in the district by people which were appointed for this purpose for the upkeep of Protestant Churches. They were collected in cattle and in wheat and potatoes and other things. There are stories about them. One time the people who were collecting the tithes had it gathered north by a river in a place called Letter. The people of the district came around it in the night and threw it all into the river
Battles were also fought on account of them. When the landlord was putting the people out of their houses other people came and tried to stop them. Some of these people were put to gaol on account of this.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
