- There are five forges in this parish. The smiths names are Daniel Sullivan, Goleen. Denis Harrington, Lissigriffin. John Mc Carthy, Ballydevlin. John Hegearty, Dunmanus and Hegearty, Lowertown The forge in Goleen is situated near the roadside The forge in Lissigriffin is situated a little distance from the main road. The forges in Dunmanus, Ballydevlin and Lowertown are situated near the road. The forges are situated near cross roads. There are slate roofs of the forges. The doors of the forges are not made of any special shape. There is one fireplace in each of the forges. The bellows are not made locally. The smith's tools consist of a hammer an anvil a tongs a chisel a poker. The smiths shoe horses and asses. The smiths make ploughs harrows and other farm implements. Some parts of the forge work is done in the open air as putting bands on cart wheels. There are no beliefs about forge water or the sparks that fly from the red hot iron.
