- There is a part of our land called Srathmór. Srathmor got its name from the big plain of rushes or rough land. There is a fort there and there are fairies seen there every night and on account of that it is known as the fairy plain and the fairies there go by the name of the red shoes. There are many stories told about that village and this is one of them. Not so many years ago a very rich man lived there named Jack Farrell: he was very rich but he treated his men very unkindly. He owned large farms of land and there is a style between Blackpark and Sráthmór which is called Jack Farrell's style. At different periods of the year a light appears there and it is supposed to be haunted; the light travels down through Sráthmór and back to Rathconlia and then it disappears. When he died he was buried in a valuable lead coffin in Kilcorkey. His ghost can be seen in Srathmór and Rathconlia up to the present day. I collected this information from my grandmother an old woman living in this district.
