    There was an old cow-house situated in a little village named Goulane about four miles north of Castletown Bere in the Parish of Eyeries and 1/2 ml. from this school. Long ago there was a school in this place. During the Summer months the people around the place used go to this school. They used not go there in Winter because the cows used be inside. The children used bring turf to school to make the fire, because the master had not enough money to buy coal. The scholars used attend very well because they had to pay for education.
    Sometimes the people used give the master clothes and food because they had no money to give him.
