When a bargain is made the agreement is made by striking hands or by spitting. The cattle when sold are marked with raddle or by clipping their side with a scissors. When an animal is sold the rope or halter is left to the buyer. The outstanding fair of the year in Borris is the 15th August, in Graiguenamanagh Michaelmas day, in New Ross first fair in May, in Waterford May fair, in Kilkenny and Thomastown the summer fairs are the most noted.
- Mr Hugh Greene was the landlord in my district. The family had been settled in the district for eighty years. They were looked upon as good landlords. No eviction had been carried out in the district. The land was divided into farms under their guidance. The landlord did exercise power over his tennants.
