- Churning is a very important duty in an Irish farmer's home. The churning is usually done by the farmer's wife and it is an old custom for anyone that comes in during the churning to say "God bless the work", and no matter what their hurry is they should take a turn at the churn before leaving. The old style of churn stood about two and a half feet high wider at the bottom than the top and drawn in still more - about six inches from the top to allow the lid to take hold. The lid has a round hole in the centre to allow the handle of the dash to pass through freely, as it's(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
