- (a) In townland of Lishirragha is a place called "Screag an Aifreann". Mass was read here in the open air and a plentiful supply of "scrub" or bushes provided shelter. Watchers by land & sea took care that the soldiers did not come on them unawares. The land on which "Screag an Aifreann is situated is at present in Methodist hands and this area was planted about 1619.
(b) In the townland of Burchestown - so called from a family of Burkes who at one time owned a large tract of the point - is a scalán. (Bye the way the Irish name for the townland is Baile na Gaoithe - from its elevated and bare position). Here there still to be seen a rudely shape altar made from (flags) stones easily obtainable in the neighbourhood. There is still to be seen the rough platform on which the priest stood. The altar is built into a bank or screag.
(c) In Crannogbhuidhe about 100 yds from the school is a well which supplies the town land and school. Beside it is another rudely formed altar with a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
