  1. Long ago there lived in Russelstown a great weight-thrower named Richard Crotty. He could throw the 1/2 cwt 25 feet.
    One day while he was out hunting he shot two deer and brought one of them home on his back.
    GREAT RUNNERS
    Laurence Dwan of Baunfaun was the best runner in this part of the country 30 years ago and held the 440 yards championship of Munster and won scores of prizes at sports meetings all over the country. He was also a great footballer and won the All Ireland Championship with the Clonmel Shamrocks in 1897 or 1899.
