Colonel O'Reilly's brother made his escape and got safely back to Spain after the Colonel's murder his estate was given to sir Chantes Goute, and from him the place was named Cootehill. 2. Old Houses

   There are a great many old houses in the district. The most of them are thatched. There are very few of them two storied because if they were two storied they would be very light and it would take a very long ladder to reach up to the top of them. The old houses had a settle bed in the kitchen it was usually kept in the corner beside the fire. There were
