  1. St Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Jesuits:
    Born at Loyola in Spain 1491. Died 1556.
    For Ignatius, a brave Spanish Knight,
    Who was wounded and had to retire from the fight;
    He asked for a book that would answer his needs,
    Some book about battles and chivalrous deeds,
    But they gave him the Lives of the Saint's which he read
    From beginning to end as he lay ill in bed;
    And when he had finished, he vowed and he swore
    That he'd follow the Saint's and be worldly no more.
    No longer a soldier, he rose from his bed.
    And enlisted an Army for Jesus instead.
