- 336Fairy Stories. In the ratheen in Bolachoir long ago, a magic hare was frequently seen.
It was of a tremendous size and of a pure white colour.
It could go from Bolachoir across the bog to Craan in one jump
It was such a swift runner that no dog could catch it.
Once a man tried to shoot it with a sirpence with a cross on it, but the hare escaped.
The hare is not seen now.
Maighread Ni Choileain - There was a man one time, who used to shoot rabbits in Munfin Wood. But he never could get a fair aim at them, for a greyhound used to stand always between the gun and the rabbit. At last, in a fit of anger he fired at the hound and shot it.
He then took to his bed, and turned black and blue and the hound remained in bed with him till he died.Eibhlis Ni Bholghuidhir.- Collector
