    Old Schools
Very little information is to be found about old schools
The names of the teachers are forgotten and also the subjects that were taught.
    1. "The School House Field" is the name of one of fields belonging to Martin O Neill, Ballingale, Ferns. A school was there about 100 years ago.
    2. At Tincurry near Tinkerstown there was a school.
    3. At Ballyboy there was an old school taught by a man named Redmond. He described himself as a Philomat.
    4. At Ballyrankin near Kilrush there was an old school taught by a man called "Dick the Hopper." Name forgotten. He earned the name "Hopper" in this way. When the children came to a difficult word which Dick did not know he used to say "You can hop that word."
