    when the bargain is made they strick hands in our district.
    An animal is marked by putting mud on the flank and by chipping the hair with a scissors. A rope halter is given away, but a leather halter is not given away.
    There are special fairs for pigs but special fairs are not held for the sale of sheep or horses.
    June is said to be the best month in the year for fairs.

  2. The three local fairs held in our district are:- Kilbeggan, Mullingar, and Tyrrellspass. These fairs are all held in the towns. Dealings are sometimes made for cattle, sheep and horses at cross-raods and at farm-houses. This is still done in our district.
