- "Proverbs"
Proverbs are wise old sayings which are used by people throughout the world. Some of these are funny but still they all teach us things that we may not have known before.Solomon who lived thousands of years ago made a book called the "Proverbs" for his people. We can read them still as they are in the Bible. Here are a few old proverbs that I heard locally:-
"Long churning makes bad buttermilk".
" The longest way round is the shortest way home".
" The best way to hurry is to take your time".
"Never say die till you're dead".
" Never leave off till tomorrow , what you can do today".
"Too many cooks spoil the broth".
" many hands make light work".
"A stitch in time saves nine".
" Its never too late to mend".
" One bird in the hand is worth too in the bush".
"Ireland was Ireland when England was a pup".
" England's difficulties are Ireland's opportunities"
" Honesty is the best policy".
" Keep your shop and your shop will keep you".
"Little strokes fell big oaks".
" The more you stand on cow manure the more it will splatter".
