Fairs and Markets
There is a tradition that Fairs were once held here under Charter but there seems to be no record of their being held later that Two Hundred years ago, nor is there any account of them at all.
Fairs were re-established here in 1936 and have been very successful.
They are held on:
Second Friday in April
Third Friday in September
Second Friday in October
do do Povember
do do December

There are large suppliers of good store cattle At some fails there have been as many as 1500 which is a record for a small mountain village.
Buyors have come from Dublin, Cork, Tallamore, Birr, Penagh, Templemore, Tipperary, Limerick Thurles. Cattle are driven or carted in Lorries Munster & Leinster. Back Thurles holds Office here on Fair Days only.
Cattle are harked, or sold on the street. The old methods of bargaining prevails & when
