  2. Cregaune is the name of the district in which I live. It is situated near Newtown in the parish of Ballybrown. Cregaune is a little hamlet near the banks of the Shannon. There are only seven families in Cregaune but there are eight houses there, namely Keehan's, McNamara's, Bresnihan's, Byrnes, Sheehy's, Byrnes and ourselves (McNamara's). There are two people in the family of Keehan, four Bresnihans, five McNamaras, five Byrnes, and eight in our own family (McNamara). McNamara and Byrnes are the most common names in Cregaune.
