- (continued from previous page)nine mornings in succession and take a drink. It is said that it is a cure for rickets to walk under a donkey three times. To write your name all round it would cure wild fire. It is also said that if you put out a cloth on St Bridgets night it would cure a headache and this cloth is called "Brath Bridge" Hot porter is supposed to be good for measles If you bath your feet in hot water and mustard It is a cure for the influenze. If you found a stone accidently with water in it and if the water rubbed to the wart would cure it. It is also said that if you licked a Lizard's back then afterwards your tongue when rubbed to a burn would cure it It is also said that if you washed your head on Good Friday or on Christmas Eve you would not get sick for the year. There were also a great many other old cures there but they are altogether forgotten by the present generation.
The poultices of ancient [?] were not so unlike the poultices of the present day. The bread poultices which is one of the most present poultices of the present day was also used in days gone by and it is supposed to be very good for sores. Soap and sugar poultices were also used for boils.
