There was a Catholic church in Crookhaven long ago and there was a priest living there. There are two old people in Crookhaven One of them knows Irish and tells stories in Irish and English. Her name is Mrs J Goggin, Blackpool, Crookhaven, Skibbereen.
Long ago the people of Crookhaven emigrated to Australia and America and many other countries. Some people say Crookhaven got its name from the round, topped hills that are at the other side of the harbour. There is a stream at the other side of the harbour called the Mill stream. There was a corn mill working there about a hundred years ago. There are songs about Crookhaven, one song is called "Crookhaven". At the other side of the harbour there are the remains of a wood. It was cut down about 1920. There is a stone quarry at the other side of the harbour There are about 60 men employed in the quarry. The stone is very good and it is sent to all parts of Europe. Steam boats come to the quarry for the stone.
