  1. Coopering.
    In Macroom years ago there were six coopering shops with 2 or 3 journeymen in some. Now there is one only left, and he does scarcely anything. He keeps a small shop, and is a newspaper correspondent for "The Kerryman".
    The articles that used to be made were
    tubs
    "keepers" - or flat milk vessels
    water-pails
    milk-pails
    "skimmed &c
    It was all local trade. The "staves" were imported.
