  1. In Macroom and neighbourhood, the "hooded cloak" may be seen in large numbers.
    It is worn by women and girls. It is made of "cloaking cloth" of a black colour, and falls to the ground. There is a hood, lined with black sateen, with a bow of satin in the top of the hood. The hood is gathered with a running string.
    The hood can be worn over the head, or may be thrown back over the shoulders. The cloak hangs loosely from the shoulders, and is practically plain, Inside are two straps stitched, in which to insert the hands in windy weather, and outside are two false pockets one on each side.
    They look like the cloaks of a religious order.
    They are made still in Macroom,
