  1. Story of "Tobar Dearg", about 3 or 4 miles N. of Macroom, (townland of Derryroe).
At a farmhouse near the well there was a servant girl working. One day her mistress told her to get water to boil the potatoes. She did so, but it happened that it was from the Red Well (Tobar Dearg) she got it. The water however would not boil the potatoes.
When the mistress learned that the water was got from the Red Well, she made the girl return the water to the Holy Well, and get water from a common well. She did so, and the potatoes boiled as usual.
