Black Clothes are still used by mourning people for the 12 mts after a death.
It is still customary to give a dead man's suit to a friend who wears it on one occasion at Mass - and who is sure to visit the Dead Man's people with suit on - to show them that he has respected the Dead.
I myself have seen that happen.
