  1. About forty years ago there lived in Knockash a man named Michael Lieran. He was a great cattle dealer. He used to go very far away to fairs. He used to go to Portumna, Loughrea and Woodfort and out the Co Clare. One day he went to a fair in Kilconnel and bought cows. He started out for home. It was a very snowy day. When he was within six miles of his home one of the cows got sick and calved. He (was) had to wait on the road until the cow was well. Then he threw the calf across his shoulder and carried him six miles home.
