  1. Local Happenings
    On Whit-Sunday about 50 years ago there was a drowning at the rampart wall in Meelick (R. Shannon). It is said they were warned about going on the water on such a day, but they seemed to defy superstition. A Mr. Waller and his daughter were drowned in a sailing boat there. Since then no one around the locality would dare sail on such a day.
