Down in the midlands before buses or motors were heard of there were some very long distance walkers In the parish of Cooleronan outside the village of Ballivor Co. Meath there lived a man named Leech whose family still live there. When Leech required to purchase anything in Dublin a distance of 35 miles away he would start off in the morning, reach Dublin before night and make his purchase, start back immediately, travel all night and reach his own place before morning. If a neighbour required anything from the capital Leech was always called upon. He was a notable figure in his time, as he passed through the towns and villages to and from Dublin.

   About the year 1806 there lived a man named Collier near Bellewstown in the county of Meath who was a noted runner. He was one of the best in his time especially at long distance races.
