    he decided to go to Australia to seek his fortune and she promised to marry him when he returned.
    The letters which he wrote to here were never received as her father used to take them and burn them on their arrival.
    When the letter came to say he was coming home the father arranged with some ruffians to waylay him for they knew he had large sums of money on him.
    They killed him in their attempt to take his money and buried him in a wood near Carbally. Ever since this man comes back at twelve o'clock on New Year's Eve to haunt the place where he met his death.
    Neighbours say that the daughter never married.
