    Then before we start to work we have to make what we call a straddle. We start with two mats made of straw one for each side. Then we have to get two boards on the "coig"* a board about a foot long and three inches wide each side. Then we have to bore two auger holes about four inches apart on the top of the "coig". Next we get two bits of sticks about four or six inches long and put them in the auger holes in the "coig". We have to make a straw rope about two yards long and tie it on with twine to the "coig" to get under the asals tail so that it would not let the straddle run out to the asals ears. We make a bellyband of straw to tie round his body so that the straddle will not
