  1. Many years ago there lived a man in Balinaglee who found a pot of gold. One day as he was digging up a piece of ground in order to put down a pole he found it.
    When he was hammering down the pole, to his great surprise he put it down into a pot of gold, which was hidden in the ground.
    He took up the pot of gold but he left the stick were, where it was because it is said that it is not right to take up anything you put down beside a pot of gold.
    Just then a cat jumped up from beside the pot when he was taking up the gold. A short time afterwards he was
