    in which there were six houses. Peggy taught all the boys and girls of those villages. She could only teach them Reading and Catechism. She could not write. Those children had to go to another hedge-school in Cong to learn writing. The teacher's name was Julia Bourke. She taught them how to write. In those days they had to bring their own pen, paper and ink. They had no black board and the teacher wrote the head-line on their copies. They were seated on planks rested on stones. The children had to pay two or three pence a week and that was the salary the teacher got. Then when the dwelling was too small they went to Cong Chapel and she taught them there. That school was situated when the Cong Post Office is now. It is between the years 1840 and 1853 those schools were.
