    1. People make a small wooden cross on St. Brigid's Eve and nail it to the rafter, or to some part of the roof of the house...

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
It is a pleasant thing to see all the windows lighted up in every house, especially on a dark night. Some people observe this custom on New Year's Eve and New Year's Night, also on the Eve of the Epiphany and the night of the Epiphany. Young people go out to count the lights and derive pleasure from it.

    3) Many people would not go into a neigbour's house on New Year's Day. There is a superstition about it, as it is said some people bring luck, others ill luck. Therefore some people will not visit their neighbours on this day for fear it would be said that they brought bad luck.
Some people have a custom of having a lot of food in the house on New Year's Day, as they say if there is plentiness on that day, there will be plentiness every day of the year.

    4) On Easter Sunday, some people eat as many eggs as they are able to eat at breakfast time.
