    There was a man and his wife in this district who were always fighting and argueing...

    I There was a man and his wife in this district who were always fighting and argueing. The man's name was James, and after a while James went away to a foreign country. When James was gone his wife said to the neighbours "as bad as James was it is worse to be without him." Ever since when a person parts with something that he is sorry for parting with afterwards people say "you are like the old woman that said "as bad as James was it is worse to be without him.
