- In former times people did not begin to wear boots until they were about ten or twelve years of age.
There are no accounts of people who never wore boots or shoes.
The children at present do not go barefoot all the year round but they do in summer. The water used for washing the feet is thrown out when the feet are washed.
There are boots made and repaired locally. There are two shoe-makers in the district.
This has been a tradition in their families, for about fifty years back. There are more shoemakers now compared to what there was in former times. At the present time people wear clogs in winter to keep their feet warm.
There was no leather made in the district at any time but it was made in Drogheda.
