  1. Old schools
Long ago when there were no schools, men went about teaching in fields and old houses. These men were not educated such as the teachers are so nowadays. Any one who wanted to get education had to go to France and these pay a lot of money.
There is a field owened by Mr Herald in Whitestown, and behind a hedge in this field school was taught.
These teachers were not paid a good wage. They only got a few pence each week and on this they had to try and get their food and clothes and often they had to go hungry.
