- On the morning of the 4th April a shipwreck occurred off the coast of Greenore. It occurred about four o' clock in the morning.
There was a terrible storm raging and there was also a thick fog. The "Alder" was on its way to Newry and was anchored about a quarter of a mile from the Lighthouse.
The "Lady Cavan" was coming from Holyhead and did not see the "Alder" and struck it It sank in a few minutes and six lives were lost. There was also a woman on board the boat.
All the people were greatly alarmed when they heard the news the next day. All the bodies were got in about a month after but some of them could not be identified.
About a quarter of a mile from where the "Alder" was sunk a terrible disaster occurred about twenty two years ago between two boats. One(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
